Epping Young Guns through to Final

Prodigy - 4 August 2007

Epping Young Guns through to Final In a history making season for the Epping Rams, the Epping Under 19’s have made it through to the final of the Rugby Club Cup, where they will play local rivals, Eastwood, for the chance to play Canterbury in the grand final. The final will be played at Blackmore Park, Canal Road, Leichardt at 10:45am. In a rousing performance, the Rams defeated Forest Under 19’s 21 points to 8 in a effort that showed defensive tenacity and attacking flair. The Young Rams sustained wave after wave of Forest attack in the early going, conceding 5 penalties in the first ten minutes which put Forest on the attack. Having been repelled by the rock-solid Rams defence, Forest opted to go for the penalty goal which subsequently failed. The Rams first scoring opportunity came from the boot of captain Dave Sutton, who collected a personal tally of 11 points, with a conversion and 3 penalties. Flying winger Tim McDonald scored two tries through blistering pace to round out the Rams points. All players for the Rams impressed, with standouts being prop Scott Miller, breakaway Liam Gooley and centre Adam Rhook. In other Rams news, senior grades played away at Beecroft. Colts started the day and went down in a valiant performance 24-5; 4th Grade kept their semi finals hopes alive with a 17-5 win; 3rd Grade showed what might have been with a 19-17 victory; An understrength 2nd Grade were unable to contain their much fancied opponents, going down 48-0 and 1st Grade played solidly before a couple of late tries blew out the score to go down 25-8. The next Rams round is at home (Somerville Oval, Blaxland Road, Epping) versus the Lindfield Rugby Club. All are welcome to come and enjoy some good rugby action, with the day kicking off at 10:45am with Under 21’s Colts, and the main event, Epping 1st Grade at 3:15pm.
